Nursery School
Our nursery offers sessional provision for 3-4 year olds.
Our pre-school environment at Douglas Valley is based around areas of continuous provision, such as the creative area, mark making table, outdoor area, sand, water and construction area. Activities within these areas are on offer to the children on a daily basis.
We focus on independence and choice within the learning environment and so children can choose the areas within the nursery they wish to play in and have a choice of equipment in each of the continuous provision areas to support and extend their play. We regard the outdoors as an outdoor classroom which reflects and enhances the learning opportunities available inside and so children can choose to play indoors and / or outdoors for a significant part of each session.
We assess the children by looking, listening and noting our findings whilst children are involved in spontaneous, self chosen play and during adult led focus activities. This allows us to build up a good picture of children’s progress and achievements, enabling us to plan for the next steps on their personal learning journey.
What to Expect When
The purpose of this booklet is to help you as a parent/carer find out more about how your child is learning and developing during their first five years, in relation to the EYFS. Children develop more rapidly during the first five years of their lives than at any other time. This booklet has been written to help you as a parent know what to expect during these vitally important years by focusing on the seven areas of learning and development which are covered in the EYFS.
